2025 continues to be an interesting year as expected. Less than two weeks into the new administration and there is no shortage of GovCon topics for us to dig into. I am in the process of outlining a podcast episode titled The Fog of GovCon – since that’s how it feels right now. Put aside your politics and consider how many things in GovCon are either actively in flux or are simply not resolved enough for contacting officers and contractors to decide on the best next step.
This is par for the GovCon course. Many will recognize that this is not the first (nor the last) foggy time in GovCon. At its core, government contracting operates within the rules of government. The government rules move. We adapt. We adapted to new, additional, or different rules after 9/11, then after the Patriot Act and the Global War on Terror, then the Great Recession, then the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, then Sequestration, then several government shut downs, then COVID. The current environment has firsts of course, but each of those times had their “firsts” too. While the current environment is “unprecedented”, all of these other events were too at the time. We’ve been through flashpoints in GovCon before…we’re all still here. The idea of GovCon being foggy is not new. I’ve come to expect these unique “foggy” GovCon times. And keep in mind, we are still under a Continuing Resolution. Congress has until March 14 to avoid another shutdown. That’s 6 weeks away. The FAR is still here. We are still here. The government contracting world may look different when we come out the other side of this, but basic mission of Government Contracting remains: write requirements, award (or win) contracts, deliver on the contracts to meet the mission.
We’ve been in turbulent times before. For example, during COVID, the Skyway team focused on helping you keep up with the evolving landscape (see the COVID podcast episodes and webinars we hosted). Like then, our role at Skyway is to help you ride the wave we’re on, play the cards we’re dealt, make informed decisions on what to do (or not to do) given the situation and the rules as they exist…and generally keep going. As I write this, I realize the Fog of GovCon is more likely to be a series of podcasts….
Government contracting isn’t easy. It can be hard even when you’re doing it right. Sometimes, it’s a little extra hard…like now…and that’s one of the reasons you have our Skyway team to help. If you need to talk to our team, want us to make training on a particular topic that’s in flux right now, or you just want us to answer a question about what’s next, contact us at [email protected] or (877) 884-5280.

Thank you this month goes to Michael Moffett. Michael has been a supporter of Skyway for nearly a decade. He shares our posts, likes our content and supports our efforts to reach new people. On top of all that, he’s had several Zoom calls with me over the years to give me honest feedback on what we are doing well, and what we can do better. One of the best ways for us to get better every day is with candid feedback from people who honestly want us to succeed. I truly appreciate when our clients take the time to help us get better.
Reminder: If you’ve not checked out our updated website, see the video tour to learn how the “big red button” is your friend.
Thank you for being a Skyway client. Without clients, my ideas and efforts don’t actually help anyone.
Final note: If you know anyone who would/should/could benefit from our training and/or consulting, please send them to SkywayAcq.com. We’d love to help them too.
