September 2024 Update

Sep 4, 2024 | Skyway Wire Updates

It feels like life is speeding up again now that the summer is unofficially over (after Labor Day). I get that it just “feels” that way in a lot of areas. It’s not like we took a sabbatical over the summer but it still feels like things are speeding up again. However, it is time for me to start doing a few things I planted a flag on the calendar in September to do. One thing I said I would re-start in September: the Skyway Wire.

It’s a “restart” because I did these about 5 years ago, and as we grew, I unfortunately had to pause them to keep up with so many other demands for my time. Well, a LOT has changed in 5 years. The Skyway team is bigger (there are more of us to lighten the load) and the Skyway team is stronger (we work very well together and now our little company functions much more effectively AND efficiently). So, it’s time to bring back my Skyway Wire. Frankly, I’ve missed writing these.

If you’re new since the last time…and a LOT of you are…the Skyway Wire is a periodic update from me in which I focus on 3 areas

– What’s new?
– Any updates?
– What’s changed? (hint: this part I’ll often ask for your feedback and input).

What’s new?

  • This Skyway Wire 😊 This is first iteration of the relaunch. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
  • We added another awesome Skyway team member: Cesar Lopez. Cesar is a retired US Marine. He spent half of 24-year career with the USMC as a Contracting Officer. Please be sure to connect with him on LinkedIn and say hi. NOTE: he recently joined me on his first podcast (episode 473). Side note: it was a great episode!

Any updates?

  • The Contracting Officer Podcast is creeping toward our 500th episode (crazy, right?!). Below are the episodes that came out this summer. Again, no sabbatical for us, but just in case you took a sabbatical from our podcast. 😊
  • 473: Writing Requirements (with Cesar Lopez)
  • 472: Ethos, Logos, Pathos Part 3 (from the industry side)
  • 471: What is an IGCE?
  • 470: What are Data Rights? (with Steve Lucianetti)
  • 469: What are Key Personnel?
  • 468: Exceptions to the Service Contract Labor Standards Act – Part 1
  • 467: Exceptions to the Service Contract Labor Standards Act – Part 1
  • 466: Basis for Award
  • 465: Evaluation Criteria and Evaluation Factors
  • 464: What is a Determination and Finding?
  • 463: GovCon Vocabulary: Volume 3: Consolidation vs Bundling
  • 462: Place of Performance Under Service Contracts (w/Shelley Hall)
  • 461: Ethos, Logos, Pathos Part 2 (from the Government side)
  • 460: Buying Commercial Services in GovCon (with active USAF CO, Desmond Culler)
  • Reminder: these episodes are only available our client subscribers (like you). You can listen to them through the podcast app that’s already on your phone (i.e. Apple Podcast, Google Podcasts, and others). Need help getting access, email us at [email protected].

What’s changed?

Playlists! We now have our Playlists on our podcast feed too!

The big news is that we figured out to how to upgrade the Contracting Officer Podcast Playlists so you can listen to them on your podcast player too. Note: you can see all the playlists here inside Skyway Central but they are not hot links…yet). I’m excited to report that they are now going to be MUCH easier to use. Starting this month, we will be adding the playlists as custom lists you can subscribe to on your podcast app (just like you do on the main Contracting Officer Podcast 2.0 feed). In other words, instead of having to scroll through our episodes on a specific topic, you’ll be able to subscribe to a list of just those episodes. For example, you can now subscribe to a podcast feed that includes the six episodes about debriefings, and only those episodes. Here’s the link to subscribe to the Debriefing Playlist. Listen to those episodes as much as you want. We are adding new playlists every week.

FYI: We are adding these playlists one by one (there are nearly 40 of them). It will take a minute to get them all in. In the meantime, if there is a playlist you are craving though, let us know and we’ll bump it up the list.

Be on the lookout for my next Skyway Wire. I’ll have a list of playlists too by then.

Finally, thank you for reading my latest Skyway Wire, and thank you for being a Skyway client. Without Skyway clients, I’m just a dude with a dream.
